Prayer for Yom HaShoah

Yom HaShoah and the preceding Shabbat

 

The following guidelines have been issued by the Chief Rabbi and the London Beth Din:


A request has been received from Holocaust survivors that a prayer be said in synagogues on the Shabbat before Yom HaShoah (this year, Parshat Shmini).  It is is our custom not to make a Keil Malei Rachamim during the month of Nissan.  Therefore the following prayer should be said instead.

 


If possible, rabbis should make reference to the Holocaust and Yom HaShoah in the course of their sermon that Shabbat
 

They may wish to suggest that on Motsei Shabbat  following  havdalah , families light a  memorial candle in memory of those who perished during the Holocaust    

The above prayer should be recited also on Yom  Hashoah (27th  Nissan – Sunday 1 May 2011) 


Congregants should also be encouraged to make  a gift to  tzedakah  on Yom HaShoah in
