  1. I am trying to find out more information on my great grandparents. I believe they came to England c1900 and they are on the 1901 census with one child. They continued to have a total of 17 children, the second of which was my grandfather.

I cannot find Jacob Alexander and Hannah/Annie Zusman on the United Synagogue’s Marriage Authorisation Certificate’s records (nor the GRO) and believe that they must have married before coming to England.

Therefore, I am hoping to find a Marriage Authorisation Certificate for one of their children in order to find out more about Jacob and Annie. Am I correct is thinking that the Groom’s father/Bride’s father are mentioned with their date and place of birth?

If this is the case, would it be possible for me to purchase a Marriage Aurthorisation Certificate as a grandchild of the happy couple? Alternatively, I do have two great aunt-in-laws still alive (but they are very elderly and in not too good health).

Any help or pointers in the right direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Ann Barnes (nee Alexander)

    • Hi. A member of our marriage authorisation department will be in touch, though not until next week as they are currently on annual leave. Many thanks, Office of the Chief Rabbi.
