Rabbi Julian Shindler MSc., PhD - Rabbinic Liaison from the Office of the Chief Rabbi
Resume Rabbi Julian Shindler MSc., PhD is director of the Marriage Authorisation Office, and director of Rabbinic Liaison, at the Office of the Chief Rabbi. He originally trained and worked as a research biochemist at the Universities of Manchester, Cambridge and Imperial College, London before joining Menorah Grammar School as head of Science. Several years later, he was invited to accept one of the first Kalms Fellowships to re-train for the rabbinate. An alumnus of Israeli yeshivot and Jews’ College London, Rabbi Dr Shindler was the London Region Student Chaplain before accepting a call to become the Rav of the Muswell Hill Community in North London, which he served for twelve years, prior to his appointment as the first executive director of the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue, in May 1998. Apart from discharging the administrative responsibilities arising from the offices he holds, he advises the Chief Rabbi on matters concerning the rabbinate. Married with eight children, Rabbi Dr Shindler lectures and writes on subjects relevant to his work as well as on topics relating to the interface between science/Judaism and Jewish medical ethics. |
